Erosion problems

If you click on the first picture it will get bigger and you can get a better idea of what we are dealing with. Jeff has been working so hard on moving dirt and trying to level out the pasture land. I drive over the area he has leveled with the truck in order to pack it down. We have planted well over $100.00 worth of grass seeds just to watch them all get washed away. We finally bought some very expensive erosion control which was $40.00 per role and did not cover much ground at all. We bought biodegradable posts and made sure the anti erosion material was tied down good. It seems like every week we get torrential downpours of rain and it ruins all the hard work we did the previous weekend. You will see one row of the anti erosion material left on the hill. The rest got washed all the way down and is now buried in the dirt by where Jeff has the tractor in this picture. You can see the large ruts that are now where the erosion material used to be. We are thinking about building berms in the woods and creating something like french drains to see if that will help. I think we will end up having to get a bulldozier in here to do some of the work. It is getting a bit frustrating!

Oh no Jen...that is terrible. I hope that y'all can soon figure out a wait to stop all the erosion problems. I know that it has to be very disheartening! Let us know if there is any way that we (Bruce) LOL can help.

Jen, have you guys called the County Agent. They are really great. They come out to see the problem and then give you different ideas. The County Agents office is awesome and FREE!! They do all sorts of stuff. I hope you guys can find something to help.
Love that comment from Tammy about can 'Bruce' help. LOL
Love ya.

WOW, it looks so different. There is grass on the hill where the dirt was dug from. Has that helped with the water getting in around the edge of the basement?

Hey Jen It's Barb the Builder LOL,
You know I am a fix-it busybody but I had a thought as I looked at you picks. Have you considered putting up a retaining wall leaving the area for the road above it and the area around the house below?? You could even build one with railroad ties and bridge timbers to not stand out so bad with the surroundings. There is a place off of Atlanta Hyw/Myteline? that sells those and ties and telephone poles at a really good price. If you did your anchors right you would never have to worry about that erosion again. Just a thought. I know it is more expense but so is having to redo constantly. You could also have a nice flat area to build your kickoff roof for the barn on the road side without worrying about further erosion. Either way Sandy makes a great point. Those County Agents are awesome, I have used them too. Good luck! Call if I can help you this time! Barbara
