ADPH training

Life has certainly been busy for me lately. Life right now consists of things like trying to keep up my house and develop our farm, working on school tours, helping a friend fix up her house, working for the fire department, and going to specialized trainings. These pictures were taken at one such training. This class was on how to handle a situation where we faced mass fatalities. I took another class recently on weapons of mass destruction both man made and natural disasters. That class would have been helpful to have before the tornado hit Prattville 6 weeks ago. Biological warfare is not highly likely here in our part of Alabama. But such things as an avian influenza virus or other such pandemic event are a very real possibilty. The time to prepare for such events is not when they hit but now and the Alabama Department of Public Health has been giving us seminars so that we can prepare ahead of time. We are doing such things as discussing where we would go for immunizations and establishing pods where we would send the general public in such events. We also have to pre plan where we would do mass burials, where we could get refrigerated containers for keeping bodies until the coroners could examine them and other such unpleasant topics. Several counties came together and brain stormed ideas. They are establishing training dates to do such things like stage a plane crash and a chemical spill so that we can learn what to do in these cases. I am planning on getting my hazmat certification in the near future. Yes, I am busy but I am loving life right now!

Vanderbilt was supposed to do a mod-pandimic situation today to train everyone incase it were to happen. But, JACHO is there doing a survey so that got postponed. I hope that we're only being prepared for stuff and we never actually have to use it.

It's very comforting to know that our county is preparing for these very possible disasters. Keep up the hard work. Having a rich and rewarding life is so fulfilling. I am so proud of you.

You look so thrilled to be there in that first picture! Or maybe that was your reaction to someone taking your picture...LOL Very interesting training...but I hope it never has to be put into practice.

Glad to know that you are receiving all of this training...but I do hope that you never have to put into practice what you have learned.
I, like Sandy, am very proud of you.
Keep up the good work!
